Road Network

The area of Zacharo is located in the southwestern Peloponnese and has significant road connections to major urban centers, ports, and airports. The distance from Athens is approximately 260 kilometers, with the route following the National Road of Athens-Corinth-Tripoli, passing through Tripoli, Megalopolis, Alagonia in Messinia, and Kalo Nero. From Patras and its port, Zacharo is 129 kilometers away via the National Road of Patras-Pyrgos. The city is 30 kilometers from Pyrgos and 20 kilometers from Ancient Olympia.

The nearest airport is Kalamata International Airport, located approximately 80 kilometers away, while Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" is about 292 kilometers away.

Zacharo is connected by road to the port of Kyllini, which is approximately 43 kilometers away, providing access to maritime transport to the Ionian Islands.

Air Connections

The Municipality of Zacharo does not have its own airport. However, access to air travel is facilitated through the nearest airports:

  • International Airport of Kalamata "Captain Vassilis Konstantakopoulos": It is located about 80 kilometers south of Zacharo and offers flights to various European destinations, mainly during the summer season.
  • Araxos International Airport: It is located about 130 kilometers north of Zacharo and serves charter flights during the summer.
  • Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos": It is located approximately 260 kilometers from Zacharo and serves as the country's main airport with flights to destinations worldwide.

The access to these airports from Zacharo is mainly via road networks, using private vehicles or public transportation.

Port Connections

The area of Zacharo does not have its own port, but access to maritime transport is served through the nearest ports:

  • Katakolo Port: It is located about 45 kilometers north of Zacharo and is an important tourist port, primarily serving cruise ships.
  • Kyllini Port: It is located approximately 80 kilometers northwest of Zacharo and offers regular routes to the Ionian Islands, such as Zakynthos and Kefalonia.
  • Port of Patras: It is located about 130 kilometers northwest of Zacharo and is one of the largest ports in Greece, with routes to Italy and other destinations.
